Description:
Our client is a leader in the printed materials industry located in Chicago's Loop and easily accessible via public transportation or local expressways. They are currently in search of a Director of Accounting - Special Projects & Research to assist and lead critical projects related to technical and emerging accounting areas, acquisitions, divestitures, and other financial reporting issues. The Director of Accouting - Projects & Research will have the opportunity to both assist and lead teams on company acquisitions and make appropriate divestitures to align its portfolio of businesses. This is a highly visible role that requires regular communication with the Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, CFO, and other corporate department heads, and Business Unit finance leaders. Specific responsibilities and projects include:
Projects:
- Process improvement efforts related to accounting and financial reporting
- Participation in the implementation of new systems
- Participation in significant financing transactions including hedging activities involving derivative financial instruments
- Participation in preparation and review of SEC filings, updating and preparing accounting policies and documentation supporting accounting conclusions
Research & Analysis:
- New Accounting standards and emerging reporting issues: Analyze and research new and emerging accounting requirements and their likely impact on the company's reported results. Provide appropriate modeling and proforma financial analysis as an input into the Company's financial planning processes. Facilitate needed changes to systems and Company accounting policies. Communicate and provide guidance to Business Units to ensure compliance with new standards. Develop materials and provide communication to the Controller, CFO, Audit Committee, and external auditors.
- Acquisitions & Divestitures: Coordinate and analyze the impact of accounting due dilligence for targeted acquisitions. Assist business units in integration and implementation of financial reporting processes for new acquisitions. Ensure proper execution of purchase accounting requirements and alignment of accounting policies. Coordinate and facilitate transition of acquired company.
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting
- CPA required
- Big 4 experience required including current technical accounting research background and work
- 6-8 years of accounting experience
- Proficient in applying GAAP
