Tax Director - Northern Suburbs

Location:  Northern Suburbs

Required Experience:   5+ Years 

Description:
Our world renowned financial services client currently has an outstanding opportunity to join their stellar team as Tax Director.  The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in taxation (MST or LLM), project management experience with a Fortune 500, Big 4, or similar financial services company.  This is a high profile role and reports directly to the VP of Tax.  The incumbent must also have a track record of success managing Tax staff.  More specific Tax Director responsibilities include:

  • Tax Planning:  Develop tax planning ideas and manage special projects to achieve defined tax savings and minimize tax risk.
  • Tax Research:  Conduct comprehensive tax research.  Timely complete, document, and clearly communicate tax reserach on projects generated from sources within and outside the Corporate Tax Department.  Tax benefits or risks should be quantified and documented for FIN 48 purposes.
  • Marketing & Client Service:  Develop and foster relationships with business unit management responsible for the information involved in special projects.  Promote communications about all tax issues and respond to questions posed by the business units.  Establish at least three new internal (non-finance) contacts.
  • Special Projects:  Participate in or lead project teams to implement tax savings initiatives, such as preparation of R&E tax credits, cost segregation studies, meal and entertainment study, corporate restructuring, and tax advantaged financing, transfer pricing, among other projects to provide timely, quality assistance to ensure that the company expeditiously obtains the proper benefits of these special projects.
  • Tax Audits & Litigation Support:  Prepare appropriate forms, supporting statements, discovery requests, etc. that will respond to the IRS audit and Appeals requests pertaining to R&E, Debt/Equity, Cost Segregation Studies, Transfer Pricing, Taxation of Financial Products and other issues and will sustain complex factual or legal tax positions taken on both originally filed returns and amended returns.

Requirements:

  • BS in Accounting
  • Master's in Related Field
  • 5 + years of tax experience preferably out of Fortune 500, Big 4, or similar financial services company
  • Must have experience with the following:  Tax Research and Development, Tax Planning, Tax Audits & Litigation Support, Project Management, and Tax Staff Management
  • MS Word, Excel, and Tax Compliance Software
